Weird weather and a surprise!

The weather in Adelaide this Summer has been weird to say the least. Usually, we are in the pool by the end of October. This year it wasn’t warm enough until mid-December. Since then we have had a three day heatwave with one day hitting 43o  degrees, this was followed by a week in the low 20s with rain. Then a few days in the mid 30s followed by another week in the low 20s and more rain (at least the tanks filled up). Very odd!

This unseasonal weather has created some issues in the garden. So far we have only had a couple of red tomatoes and the squash are not nearly as prolific as usual. Yesterday I also found a very unseasonal surprise growing in the Jalapeño Chilli pot.

As pansies and violas are one of my favourite flowers I was very happy to find this little fellow 🙂

About A Kailyard in Adelaide

A Kailyard in Adelaide! We are working hard to be domestically sustainable in the foothills of Adelaide. As we both work fulltime this is not an easy task, but we do our best growing much of our own produce in our yard and in our community garden plots. We reduce, recycle and reuse as much as possible and try hard to not consume mindlessly. We have 5000 l of rainwater, a 5 kw solar system, and use a green energy provider for all our excess needs.
